AERIAL TREE TOPPER
MODEL CS-1-TT
Purpose:
To remove tree tops in seconds, in second growth timber that has
been previously logged, in an effect to reduce blow-down along prevailing
wind exposed areas. Reduces
the crown to make air transitions through the timber stand easier.
Method:
The “TOPPER” is designed with an upside down cone, to be lowered
15FT over the tree top. Once
the desired depth has been reached, the TOPPER is stabilized by the
helicopter. A shuttle is
activated by the pilot to advance a single saw blade through the tree trunk,
forcing the top of the tree to fall away.
The shuttle is moved to open position as the TOPPER proceeds to the
next target. Starting, stopping
and the shuttle are controlled by the pilot through a wiring system linked
from the TOPPER to the aircraft.
Data:
20H.P 4 cycle engine; clutch– centrifugal; blade-single 33” dia.
Shuttle; electric over hydraulic, 30” to 40” stoke.
The hydraulic system is activated by a built-in battery that is kept
charged by an alternator attached to the engine, which is installed on the
TOPPER.
Direction of Fall:
Is controlled along power lines, streams etc., by means of a spring loaded
bar (arm) mounted in the front section of the TOPPER which will tip the top
forward when it is cut.
Benefits:
-
120 to 150 tops cut per hour
-
Efficiency -
half the cost of a crew
-
Safety - eliminates risks to crew
-
Clean Cut Top - at an angle to help prevent disease
to the tree
-

hand-ups after being cut
